Pistol Packing Pastors

Pistol Packing Pastors

Have you pastors had enough of the rhetoric from those within our media who preach that owning a gun is detrimental to us as a nation? If so, please get in line, because it starts here with me. I’m big, black, bald, bad, and love to hunt. Our very heritage, sovereignty, and freedom we all enjoy are under attack, and the time has come to rise up and say, we are many in numbers, we won’t be stopped, and it starts with us.

Do you know anything about our history? We are rich in giving to others, caring for the needy around the world, we love people, and we are a people who don’t always know our great history. Do the names Hitler, Lenin, Mao, Pol Pot, Tojo, and the late Hugo Chavez of Venezuela ring a bell? They ought to, because they had one common interest, to gain control of their nations and destroy Christianity by seizing every weapon, in each and every home. Where did religious freedom go? This process was subtle, but with horrendous results at the end. Because of their tyranny and compulsion to seize all guns, the end result was the murder and slaughter of over 60 million people. The church fell silent and the genocide of each one of these nations could have been avoided if the people had their guns, and the church stood up.

How many of our children in America will die until we are serious about the 2nd Amendment? We need to address the culprit from the pulpit, because it’s the media and secular humanists aiming for our destruction, and we pastors can no longer remain silent. It’s their goal to control the masses exactly like these beasts mentioned above, with evil intent to bring fear to the masses regarding our God-given right to own a gun.

I thought it was stupid several years ago when the Seattle City Council announced “We are a nuclear free zone” regarding nuclear bombs directed at the United States. I’m sure Russia, China, North Korea, the Islamic Brotherhood, and all of our enemies abroad were saying we will leave Seattle alone, right? This same foolishness of the liberal media and political leaders is seen across America today with signs that read “GUN FREE ZONE” in front of our public schools. Why not put up signs in front of our homes and businesses, and better yet, our churches, announcing there are no guns in the vicinity.

Or how about a sign that says, “I got some gold silver and platinum in the house and won’t be home until 2:30 or 3:00.” I think our children are more precious than those precious metals. Why not put up signs in front of the White House, the Capitol, police departments, and our military bases that read, `WE ARE A GUN FREE ZONE?” I wonder if Joe Biden consulted the father of a Connecticut family, whose wife and two daughters were brutally murdered before him, giving advice that it wouldn’t have occurred if his wife had stood on her porch with a shotgun to scare them off.

When will we as pastors wake up and DEMAND media and political leaders address the fact that the murder of white children holds priority over a black child in a city like Chicago. Check out the homicide statistics of what city in America holds the highest rate of violence, and especially to its children. I’ll give you a hint, it’s the home of the Bears, the Cubs, Bulls, the White Sox, and of course Barak Obama.

The madness won’t stop until we pastors in America become real shepherds and defend our flocks.

Begin to understand our great history and especially the 2nd Amendment. Our president has surrounded himself with hundreds of security detail for his protection and safety, which is understandable. And they are not carrying water pistols.

So here is the question for you: Who is protecting you from those thugs who would break your door down and murder your family. Gangs are not reserved for the city projects in Chicago or LA. Some of them live in the sanctuary of gangs at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC.

  1. Thank you for your challenging article, Dr. Hutcherson. As I mentioned when I signed up for your “Black Robe Brigade,” I am very new to the world of guns. Being raised in and around San Francisco, only the police and the criminals had guns. We had none in my parents’ home–he was a full-time pastor; why would he have anything to do with them anyways? (So I thought.) My wife also grew up in a “gun free family” but endured a horrific assault at gun point. The fright simply reinforced her disinterest in guns. Naturally, then our own family was “gun free” (which is really, “gun stupid”) for the first 25 years of marriage. The change began as we evaluated Scripture and the US Constitution on our responsibilities as citizens. We are now convinced the founders included the 2nd Amendment expecting citizens to keep and bears arms without any infringement in order to foil both invasion and tyranny. In the last month we bought two handguns. We also joined the Great Falls Shooting Sports Complex. I am now a member of the NRA and Gun Owners of America. Next month we attend the NRA’s all day basic pistol class. After that I will obtain my concealed carry permit. I will pack while I preach to emphasize our responsibilities as citizens. I also encourage our people to bring their guns to services. Needless to say, I am not the minister I use to be! Again, thank you for your confirmation of my budding convictions. Your Brother in Christ, Joseph Moyer, Preaching Elder, Westside Baptist Church, Great Falls, Montana.

  2. Dear Pastor Hutcherson,
Two things about me: I don’t have all of the answers and I don’t think that I have all of the answers. I also support the 2nd Amendment as I do the other 26. I also have many questions.

While I can understand your argument, especially in light of the contemporary examples of Hitler, Stalin, and the others, I cannot equate your argument if the setting is the first century Christian church. Would the same argument have been valid for early followers of Christ who could have thought to stockpile swords, daggers, and spears to defend themselves against the even more present enemies of the early church who were actively hunting them down and murdering them? I can’t imagine Paul not telling them to do so if it were necessary or good for the defense of their earthly lives.

I can understand the legitimate use of a firearm for hunting or personal protection. However, I question the actual utility of having a massively armed population ready to use their weapons when any individual may deem it necessary. Perhaps an armed teacher or administrator at Sandy Hook could have prevented or at least abbreviated the killing of all those children and their teachers. However, I am not sure that encouraging every passenger boarding an airplane to carry a loaded sidearm even though it could likely prevent someone from commandeering the plane with impunity.

While considering the ownership of firearms as a potential deterrent to internal or external forces aimed at subduing the people of this nation, I encountered the passage in Isaiah 812-14 NLT: “12 “Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do,
and don’t live in dread of what frightens them.
13 Make the Lord of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life.
He is the one you should fear.
He is the one who should make you tremble.
14 HE WILL KEEP YOU SAFE.
    But to Israel and Judah
he will be a stone that makes people stumble,
a rock that makes them fall.
And for the people of Jerusalem
he will be a trap and a snare.”

Analogies are easy to construct, but are not always valid under all circumstances. There may be a proper time and purpose to own, carry, and use a personal firearm for protection, but there may also be a time when it is not appropriate, but that’s another verse in Scripture.

    I would enjoy your thoughts.

Continue to be blessed and a blessing.

  3. As pastors, our motivation should come from the Word of God rather than the Second Amendment, which is inept at protecting us anyway. Think about it: The Amendment that contains the phrase “shall not be infringed” is the most infringed, licensed, and limited amendment of the entire twenty seven. Furthermore, the Second Amendment can and likely will some day be repealed. This is the inherent nature and danger of optional constitutional rights versus non-optional God-expected responsibilities, such as the one dictated by Paul to Timothy:

“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house [including spiritual and physical protection], he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1 Timothy 5:8)

For more on this, listen to “The Second Amendment: A Knife in a Gunfight,” recently preached at the Springfield, Missouri, Firearms and Freedom Symposium at http://www.bibleversusconstitution.com/#FeaturedMessages. At the same location, you will also find an interview Larry Pratt (Executive Director of Gun Owners of America) conducted with me on the same issue. I’m sure you’ll find Mr. Pratt’s remarks especially interesting.
